GGF NM WG Notes 06/06/05 Call began at 11:00 a.m. EDT. Attendees: Mark Leese Eric Boyd Jeff Boote Martin Swany Jason Zurawski Dan Gunter Jana Novrikrva Susan Evett (scribe) AGENDA 1) Bash the agenda 2) Prep for GGF Chicago 3) Review Internet2/G2 JRA1/ESnet perfSONAR early adoption efforts of v2 Schema and subsequent changes to the v2 Schema. Mark reported that he’s requested a really long session for 6/28 (Tuesday) and a single 1.5 hour session on Wednesday to feedback to the grid community at large. Agenda has not been proposed, as yet, but he’s reported that he’d post it to our website when complete. Mark felt that the work is nearly complete but it needs to be signed off on. Most people will be moving to v2. DRAFT AGENDA FOR GGF14: * Richard and Mark to report on status of v1 schema (1 hour) * Mark to give a demo of EGEE tool (using schemas to talk to mediator software that then goes off to talk to other software, with emphasis on ‘lessons learned’; diagnostic tool will not be ready) and a presentation of the status of the diagnostic tool. (1 hour) * Martin will give an overview of v2 schema (1 hour) * Jeff will give an overview of perfSONAR work for context (1 hour) * Dan/Jason will present the status of the v2. schema (with a report on ‘lessons learned’ by trying to apply it to the perfSONAR project) (1 hour) * Martin will run a demo of the prototypes (perfSONAR) (1 hour) * Martin will present on extensibility (the ‘X’ in xml is a misnomer or… lessons in pain) issues (1 hour) * Jeff will lead a discussion on use cases (brainstorming) -- Dan will present on test scheduling cases * Next steps discussion (1 hour) – focus on ‘smaller’ documents that the group could produce in the near future Mark and Eric will ‘report out’ (may just pull together the presentation) for the open talk on Wednesday. V2 SCHEMA/perfSONAR EFFECTS Martin reported that, for validation, the multiple namespaces (designed for extensibility) is proving ‘cumbersome’. He suggested implementing code at a lower-level. This appears to hit a fundamental problem (not merely one of ‘waiting for libraries to catch up’); Jeff agreed. He felt that, currently, the schema is parsed, in entirety, at the beginning and, for extensibility, it will be necessary to parse it and validate it incrementally. He described it as an ‘envelope’ – you wouldn’t go inside an element until you needed to. Martin agreed; this would allow elements to be pass around without each ‘passer’ to be able to ‘use’ the element. ACTION ITEMS: 1. Jeff to send the four existing ‘use cases’ to the mailing list so that the known ones (instance documents) could be reviewed by the group before the discussions. 2. Susan to look back in the archives to see if there are ‘use cases’ for v1 in the notes. 3. Susan will develop a ‘draft agenda,’ post it to the website, and send an email reminder to the list that is available. Jeff, Eric, Mark, Martin, Dan/Jason, and Richard will prepare the presentations allotted them. 4. Eric will setup an e-dial for the full day meeting at GGF14. 5. Eric will find out if Warren and anyone from Jim Ferguson’s group will attend GGF 14. Next call is on 28 June 2005 (face-to-face meeting) at GGF14. Time and location to be reported later. Call ended at 12:03 EDT.
